California air pollutants decreased 35 to 47 percent. So did childhood lung problems.

Southern California’s air quality improved from the mid 90s to 2010 and during that period so did the lungs of the region’s children. The four-year average of NO2 and PM2.5 air pollution in five Southern California cities decreased 35 percent and 47 percent respectively from 1994 to 2010. During the corresponding period, the percentage of 11 to 15 year olds living in those cities that had worse than normal lung function also decreased significantly. China air pollution down 16% for first half of 2015

china air pollutionAccording to a July 22 post by Greenpeace East Asia, China’s average PM2.5 air pollution for the first half of 2015 is 16% better than it was for the same period in 2014. That doesn’t mean that China’s air quality is good now, it’s still terrible – five times the World Health Organization’s recommended safe levels. However it seems to be a step in the right direction.
